What Have We Learned in this Pandemic?

Before Spring can quickly approach us, we slip into this season of Lent. We immerse ourselves into the journey Jesus made to the cross. This year, that journey is a little bit longer, a little bit harder, and a little bit darker as we continue to make our way through this pandemic too. Therefore on the journey this year, we draw closer to God through the stories of faith within us. We stop. We reflect. And we talk about what we have learned in this pandemic. While the year of the pandemic has been horrific and stressful and for many, grief-stricken, we also have seen amazing glimpses of God at work in the extraordinary and in the ordinary. Join us this season as we discover the answers to that really challenging question.

  1. Ash Wednesday, Feb 17. Drop by for ashes at St. Mark’s (715 24th Ave. S, Grand Forks, ND) from 4:30-5:30 pm or at Walle (746 9th St NE, Thompson, ND) from 6-7 pm. Then tune in on our Facebook page at 7 pm for worship featuring our musicians leading Holden Evening Prayer.

  2. Virtual Soup Suppers, Feb 24 and March 10 at 6 pm. Cook up a batch of soup. Serve up a bowl, and join us on Zoom for a safe soup supper. Zoom info will be emailed out or you can find it in our newsletter or contact the church office. Some of our favorite soup recipes are available here.

  3. Wednesday night worship services will be virtual and available at 7 pm on Facebook only. Each service will feature our musicians leading us in the Holden Evening Prayer and also your friends and neighbors sharing their learning in this pandemic.

  4. Sunday worship will continue according to our regular schedule. Go to our About page to find out more.

  5. Holy Week. As has been the case during this entire pandemic, we are making our plans for Holy Week, but those might be adjusted or changed depending on our situation within the pandemic. Here’s the schedule:

    • Maundy Thursday, April 1 at 7 pm at Walle. This service will be our observance of First Communion for some of our students. Only the students and their families will be allowed to attend at Walle. Others can watch this service Live on our Facebook page.

    • Good Friday, April 2 at 12 noon at St. Mark’s and at 7 pm at Walle. These services will be in-person with masks and social distancing. The 7 pm service will also be live-streamed on Facebook.

    • Easter Sunday, April 4 at 8:30 am at Evanger and 10:30 am at St. Mark’s. These services will be in-person with masks and social distancing. The 8:30 am service will be live-streamed on Facebook.
